Re: goin overseas

My buddy is in the process of doing a PCS down to Okinawa. I think he was told no cars. He said they have cars around the place for cheap that people sell when they are leaving.

Other problem will be that the Japanese drive on the other side like the Brits. Driving with a U.S. spec is doable but not a lot of fun and somewhat dangerous.

Thanx for the input fellas i may just keep it in storage in the US....but why still pay for it if i can't drive it? damn i'm confused..i'll ponder some more.

Re: goin overseas

True there was a guy I worked with that bought a Skyline over there for under $10,000 I think. and for the last 2 years it's been sitting at the port in Cali because he can't afford to convert it to US specs. So while your over there have your fun and (save) and just get something brand new when you get back.

I know BMW will build cars to US Spec for soldiers stationed in Europe. Is this possible with a Japanese automaker? I dont know but it is worth looking into. This would alleviate all red tape since it is up to spec from the start of manufacturing.

Re: goin overseas

For the Japanese cars you'd lose most of the allure onse you put it to US specs. I'm in the Military and I know alot of people that have gone to Japan. And very, very few come back with a car they bought over there. Unlike Germany were everyone and the mother just about leaves with a BMW.
