Activematic Gear Shift

Hi Guys... when you guys test drive the car, did you noticed that using the Activematic manual mode, shifting to a higher gear entails a backwards shift of the gear? I found it strange because most clutchless gear cars I driven with shifts upward to get to higher gear...

yup... noticed it too but once u get use to it then ok liao...
one thing good on the MZ3 activematic is that if u r in "M" mode it will NOT act smart and change the gear for u if it touches the redline...

This was noted by one chinese journalist who test drove the car. Think most of the cars with "triptonic" gear boxes have "up" to change gears up and "down" to change gears down. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it.

I just feels right for me to pull to do a up shift of the gear than push.
It just does not feels right for a push action for a up shift when the car is already moving forward. Don't everybody agree? 8)

i am very comfortable with pulling to upshift and pushing to downshift. I think it makes more sense because when i test drove mine, i did it instinctively.

I don't drive my car hard. I just drive it as the manual suggests I do.

hi guys,

i am new just test drove a mz3 and bought one. should be on the road soon, thats what the salesman says. I think is only natural for you to pull to upshift cause imagine we have a very powerful engine and is throwing you back & forth which hand action suits better. The worst case is when you have to brake hard and your whole body movement is going forward, you push the lever and it upshift...bad idea. Just my 2 cents worth.

cheers

well, i drive my bro's pug307 half the time and his car has "up"=shift up and "down"= shift down.
driven a few european cars and some JDM cars and they all seem to follow this configuration.
so i guess its kinda strange mazda decided to do it the other way round.
i do sometimes engage the wrong gear due to this, but being the wussy driver that i am, i dont think its really a big deal.
